INTERESTING TO KNOW

The first song dedicated to the Yerevan Metro was written by People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia, composer Martin Vardazaryan.

When the Yerevan Metro opened in 1981, poet Suren Muradyan called me and said: “What do you think, is it worth writing a song about the metro?” I said: “Of course it is.”

Having dictated the lyrics to the composer over the phone, he began to create the song. And after 2 hours the song was ready.

I called him back and started singing. He really liked it.

The song was first performed by the “Arevik” ensemble.

The 7 of March is marks 44 years since the foundation of the Yerevan Metro.
