BIOGRAPHY

From 1891 – studied at the St. George Seminary in Echmiadzin under Kara-Murza and Komitas, also collecting and harmonizing folk songs

1904 – graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory (prof.-s: N. Rimsky-Korsakov, A. Lyadov, and A. Glazunov)

1895 – organized a choir in Shushi

1905-1907, he taught music at the Nersisyan School in Tbilisi

Directed the local Armenian church choir, harmonized spiritual songs, and performed arrangements of folk pieces

From 1908 – toured various regions with Armenian populations (Trapezion, Karin, Tbilisi again, Tehran, Constantinople, and others; from 1923, the USA) and collected folk melodies (also using notes by Komitas)
