BIOGRAPHY

1935 – Graduated the Moscow Conservatory

1931-1936 – Music Editor of the All-Union Radio

1936-1943 – One of the founders of the Tajik People’s Musical Theater in Stalinabad

1948 – lecturer at the composition department of the Moscow Conservatory

1949-1954 – Deputy Head of the Radio Department of the USSR Ministry of Culture

1962-1971 – Head of the composition department

1965 – Professor

1964 – Secretary of the Union of Composers of the RSFSR

Author of Operas, Ballets, works for piano, symphonic orchestra, and choir. He adapted about 100 Komitas folk songs for piano. He wrote romances based on the poems of A. Isahakyan and V. Teryan, as well as theater plays and film music.

1949 – Laureate of the Stalin Prize, 2nd Degree

1957 – People’s Artist of the Tajik SSR

1963 – Honored Artist of the RSFSR

1978 – People’s Artist of the RSFSR
