REGULATIONS OF THE XII EDUARD MIRZOYAN YOUNG COMPOSERS’ COMPETITION

This year, the XII E. Mirzoyan Competition will start on May 12th, his birthday. On this day at 12:00, the participants will first pay tribute to the memory of the great composer at the Komitas Pantheon, after which the draw for the order of the participants’ performances will take place at the Komitas Museum-Institute.

The I round of the competition will be held on May 13 in the Concert Hall of the Composers Union of Armenia, within the framework of which the participants of the SENIOR group (14-18 years old) must present a piece for an ensemble (for any 2-4 instruments, maximum duration 10 minutes), and the participants of the JUNIOR group (up to 13 years old) – 1 song written for any instrument and voice (based on an Armenian-language poem by an Armenian author), the maximum duration of which should not exceed 5 minutes.

The II round of the competition will be held on May 15th at the Concert Hall of the Composers Union of Armenia, within the framework of which the participants of the JUNIOR and SENIOR groups must present 1 solo piece written for any instrument (the duration of the piece of the JUNIOR group participants should not exceed 5 minutes, and the piece of the SENIOR group participant should not exceed 10 minutes).

On May 17, the Gala Concert-Awarding Ceremony of the competition winners will be held at the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall, during which the names of this year’s laureates will be announced. The concert evening will feature pieces by the laureates of both groups.

On May 20th, a concert of the competition winners will be held at the concert hall of the E. Kzartmyan Music School in Vanadzor.
