Composer, songwriter, chorous conductor, founder of the Armenian National Opera

Tigranian played flute from an early age, participated in school brass band concerts. The formation of his musical taste was significantly influenced by the assimilation of the characteristics of Shirak’s musical art, armenian folk and gusan music.
Since 1913 – lived in Tiflis
1912-1921 – participated in the works of the Armenian Music Society, taught at the Hovnanyan School, performed in concerts.
1908 – “Anoush” opera (by H. Tumanyan), staged for the first time in 1912, in Alexandropol, and first time in Yerevan in 1935, in Moscow in 1939. Over the next 30 years, the composer repeatedly referred to the opera, made some changes, additions, reviewed the instrumentation.
The opera laid the foundation for a new stylistic direction in the armenian musical theater. It stands out for its bright and colorful scenes of folk holidays and rituals, lyrical songs, duets and choruses. The melodies created by the composer spread and essentially became popular.
1949 – “David Bek” historical patriotic opera (by Raffi), staged for the first time in 1950, after the composer’s death, at the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theater.
The opera was a new step in the national opera art with its ideological richness, civic pathos, and popularity of the musical language. The opera is rich in elements of rural, urban, gusan and spiritual music.
Other works:
Streets, music schools in Yerevan and Gyumri were after Tigranian, a monument to him was placed in the circular park of Yerevan, and a house-museum operates in Gyumri.
