BIOGRAPHY

1926 – graduated from Tiflis Conservatory (prof. S. Barkhudaryan, later V. Shcherbachyov)

1924 – Graduated from the medical faculty of Rostov-on-Don University

1924-1927 – Hayartyan Music Studio and Music Technical College No. 3 in Tiflis (lcturer)

1927-1934 (from 1933 – director) – chairman of the Armenian section of the Soviet Composers Union of Georgia

Since 1934 – lived in Yerevan, taught at the Conservatory, led the composition department

Since 1945 – professor

Founder of the Armenian Soviet school of teaching composition. His merit is especially great in training of composers on the basis of national music. Among his students were A. Babajanyan, A. Harutyunyan, E. Mirzoyan, Gh. Saryan, A. Merangulyan, R. Atayan, A. Khudoyan.

1920 – Musical drama “Gulizar”

1935 – String Quartet

1938 – Opera “Rock of Rushan” (by N. Zaryan)

1942 – Vocal-symphonic picture “Kolkhoz” (“Prosperity”)

1943 – A series of children’s songs (with piano accompaniment)

1944 – Violin sonata

1946 – Piano trio
