In the field of symphonic music, 3 invention cycles for symphony orchestra, concert inventions for piano and orchestra, concertos for cello and orchestra, concertos for violin and orchestra, concerto for piano and orchestra are significant.
In chamber music, 30 “Invention pieces” for orchestral instruments with piano accompaniment, 2 piano sonatas, a sonata-duet for violin and piano, a sonata for violin and piano, a piano trio have received wide recognition.
The works of Gagik Hovunts are based on the mode-tonal system created by himself. A significant part of G. Hovunts’ activity is the pedagogical work at the Yerevan State Conservatory, where he was a lecturer of harmony for nearly 50 years, passing on his professional experience and rich scientific achievements from generation to generation.
