BIOGRAPHY

Began his musical education in his hometown, at the P. Tchaikovsky Special Music School in Yerevan, in the piano class of prof. H. Zargaryan.

1986 – graduated from the piano and composition (prof. Ed. Baghdasaryan, T. Mansuryan) departments of the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas (YSCK)

1989 – completed his postgraduate studies (prof. T. Mansuryan)

1993 – moved to Paris and entered the Sorbonne University (Paris IV), in the musicology department. Defended his master’s thesis on “Komitas’s Piano Works”.

1989–1993 – organist at the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral.

1991–1993 – taught accompaniment art at the YSCK

1992 – head of the Yerevan Municipality Culture Department.

Since 2002 – professor at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory in Paris.

Since 2010 – composer-in-residence at a number of conservatories in France (Brest, Camper, Alencon, Aix-en-Provence, etc.). Throughout the year, he receives orders for new compositions and takes part in numerous events dedicated to his work.

Since 1987 – has been performing as a solo pianist in various countries around the world: in Russia, Europe, Canada, the USA, and others.

Collaborated with such famous performers and groups as S. Khachatryan and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, G. Pelevanian and the National Symphony Orchestra of the Department of Paris, the Arpeggione String Quartet, the Marseille Wind Quintet, etc. Many of his works are performed on prestigious stages around the world.

2007 – 2 prizes in Hollywood: the Golden Star Halo Award and the Emerald Award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council

2018 – Proclaimed an Honorary Citizen of the city of Vanves (France)
