BIOGRAPHY

1958 – graduated from the trumpet class of the brass department of the Romanos Melikyan music college (prof., RA Honored Artist A. Karapetyan)

1967 graduated from the trumpet class of the brass chair of the orchestra department of the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas (YSCK) (prof., RA Honored Artist M. Khachatryan)

1962-1967 – jazz orchestra of the “Nairi” cinema and “Yerevan” brass orchestra (trumpet player, participated in about 100 concerts)

1967-1977 – State Committee of Television and Radio of the ASSR (trumpet player, made many recordings and participated in more than 200 concerts)

1978-1989 – The Armenian State Pedagogical Institute after Kh. Abovyan (lecturer of the “History of Brass Instrument Performance Art” and “Methodology of Brass Instrument Performance Art”)

1977-2006 – Radio of Armenia (music commentator and senior, authored more than 4,000 radio programs, as well as 120 radio programs for Moscow “Ostankino” and 250 radio programs for “VEM” radio stations)

Since 1992 – Lecturer at the YSCK (“History of Brass Instrument Performance Art” and “Methodology of Brass Instrument Performance Art”)

Since 2000 – “Musical Armenia” magazine (responsible secretary

Since 2004 – head of the publishing department at the YSCK (editor of the “Yerzhisht” monthly newspaper)

He is the author of many scientific reviews, has appeared in national and international scientific conferences. Published “Sketch of life. Mikael Khachatryan” (2004), “Brass and Percussion Instruments Made of Wood and Copper” (2011), “History of Performing Art of Wooden and Copper Brass Instruments” (2014) and “Methodology of Performing Art of Wooden and Copper Brass Instruments” (2014).

Edited Haykaz Chgnavoryan’s memoir “Hush and Pasharu” (“Araks”, Tehran 2009).

He has published more than 1000 scientific, analytical, critical and public speaking articles in “Soviet Armenia”, “Soviet Art”, “Erekoyan Yerevan”, “Avangard”, “Voice of the Motherland”, “Fine Art”, “Friday”, “On Air” Yerevan”, “Ether”, “TV Channel”, “Alik”, “Ararat”, “Musician”, “Interlocutor”, “Musical Armenia”, “Musical Academy” (Moscow), “Sobesednik Armenia”, “Literature and Arts ” and “Shirak” (Aleppo) periodicals and magazines.

Author of numerous scientific reviews; and has participated in national and international scientific conferences. Author of the following books: “Contour of Life. Michael Khachatryan” (2004), “Brass and Wind Instruments” (2011), “Woodwind and Brass Instruments Performing Arts History” (2014) and “Woodwind and Brass Instruments Performing Arts Methodology” (2014)

Recorded and edited Haykaz Tchgnavorian’s “Hoosh Yev Pasharou” diary (“Araks”, Tehran 2009).

Tovmasyan’s scientific, analytical, critical articles and reviews (more than 1000) has been published in “Soviet Armenia”, “Soviet Art”, “Evening Yerevan”, “Avant-garde”, “Voice of Motherland”, “Fine Art”, “Friday”, “Yerevan in Broadcast”, “Broadcast”, “TV-Channel”, “Channel”, “Ararat”, “Musician”, “Сompanion”, “Musical Armenia”, “Musical Academy” (Russia), “Grakanutean yev Arvestneroo” and “Shirak” (Syria) newspapers and magazines.

2004 – Associate professor at the YSCK

2005 – “Golden Pen” special prize of the Armenian National Radio Company

2011 – defended his “Orchestral Brass Instruments and their Performing in Armenia” dissertation thesis at the Institute of Art of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia thesis and received Doctor of Arts degree
