In 2023, on November 9, a meeting of the CUA Council was held. The chairman presented the cash flows of the past year for the first time, noting that as of November 1 of this year, compared to the previous 10 years, the CUA had the greatest financial income, thanks to which the VII Festival of Contemporary Armenian Music was held in the city. Promotion became possible within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the RA. Instead of 3 concerts, 7 concerts were held, and monthly financial support for about 15 80-year-old and socially vulnerable members of CUA continued, which, by the way, has been provided for a year now. The issue of CUA members who receive monthly financial support but do not pay membership fees was also discussed, and therefore it was decided to notify them in writing, remind these members to pay the annual fee, otherwise these persons will be deprived of the financial support provided.
The Chairman of the CUA presented the program related to the resumption and reconstruction of the Dilijan Concert Hall, as well as the union’s new website and logo options. According to the decision of the board, with the launch of a new, more modern website, the selected new logo will also be introduced into circulation, which will be an inclined pentagon going to the right and upward, with a linear version of Mount Ararat with the inscription “Composers Union of Armenia” (if necessary, can be indicated on Russian and English). The logo will also be presented at the General Assembly.
The issue of the CUA Charter was also discussed. It was decided to form a working group whose members will work on amendments to the Constitution. The result will be presented to the Board and then to the General Assembly. The working group included the chairman of CUA, composer Aram Satyan, adviser to the chairman of CUA, composer Avetis Berberyan, head of the concert and organizational department of CUA, composer Edmon Makaryan, head of the youth department of CUA, musicologist Lilit Artemyan, executive secretary of the CUA magazine “Armenian Composer”, musicologist Gohar Shagoyan, composer Ruben Antonyan. A lawyer will also be involved in the work.
As previously reported, the discussion of the VII Festival of Contemporary Armenian Music took place in the open discussions section of the department. Many of those present expressed satisfaction with the organizational aspects of the festival. The fact of payment of royalties to authors for works (premieres, new editions) for the first time is also covered. Composer Ashot Babayan also proposed making concerts paid and establishing a ticket system.
