On 26 of april at 7.30 PM, a recital at the Concert hall of Composers Union of Armenia “THE ORGAN, SACRED AND SYMPHONIC”
Performed by Konstantin Volostnov (www.volostnov.ru)
For the first time Konstantin Volostnov appears with an exclusively solo performance and presents a virtuosic programme of romantic pieces and music of the 20th and 21st centuries. The recital features two world premieres – Three Pieces for Organ (2021) by member of the CUA Jirayr Shahrimanyan and two fragments from the Organ Mass (2022) by Arman Gushchyan.
It is noteworthy that the organ of the Union of Composers is by far the largest working instrument in Armenia. It is the instrument that makes it possible to perform romantic music and works from the period of organ romanticism and expressionism in a most authentic manner. A significant part of the programme on April 26 comes from those eras: French composers and organists Charles-Marie Widor (1844–1937) and Olivier Messiaen (1908–1992), and German organ expressionist Max Reger (1873–1916) whose 150th anniversary is celebrated this year. Khristofor Kushnarev (1890–1960), an outstanding polyphonist and composer who is equally important for the Armenian and Russian musical art, relied on the style of the latter in many ways. His virtuosic and dramatic Passacaglia and Fugue is among the unique examples of 20th century organ music. The recital also feature four preludes by Alexander Pirumov (1930–1995), a composer who began his professional career in Yerevan, but moved to Moscow at a fairly young age; he nonetheless always preserved the intonation of his native culture in his works.
