BIOGRAPHY

1952 – moved to Yerevan

1954 – entered to the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas (YSCK)

1956 – by the invitation of Aram Khachatryan, moved to the Moscow Gnesin Institute, and then to the Leningrad Conservatory

1964 – finished the studies and returned to Yerevan

1986-1990 – founder-leader of the soloist jazz ensemble of the Radio State Committee of Armenia

Since 1992 – was lecturer at the YSCK

Since 1998 – Professor

2009 – “Sharm Holding” company released Stepan Shakaryan’s “Moon on the Mountains” CD

Stepan Shakaryan created more than 100 jazz compositions, which are included in the playlists of various Armenian jazz collectives. His compositions are performed by the Armenian State Jazz, Pop and Jazz Orchestras of the Public Television and Radio Company, and a number of other groups. He developed Armenian folk songs and gave them a jazzy touch. The composition “From Bingyol to Kansas City” became a standard of Armenian jazz. His symphonies and concerts were performed by many Armenian and foreign artists.
