BIOGRAPHY

1957-1964 – studied at the school after A. Spendiaryan

1964-1968 – studied at the college after R. Melikyan

1968-1972 (73) – piano department (prof.: V. Aharonyan) and composition department (prof.: G. Yeghiazaryan) at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas (YSCK)

Composition and piano teacher at the A. Babajanyan College

Composition and piano teacher at the T. Chukhadzhyan School

Composition and harmony teacher at the A. Spendiaryan School

Composition and piano teacher at the music school in Charentsavan

1977-1978 – Deputy artistic director of “Armconcert”

In different years, held the position of head of the symphonic, opera, chamber music section and head of the international relations department at the CUA

Since 2003 – professor at the YSCK

Author of 6 operas, 4 ballets, 2 oratorios, 9 symphonies, 3 chamber symphonies, 4 choral symphonies, 2 symphonic poems, 7 string quartets, concertos (5 – for piano), sonatas for various instruments (7 – for piano). for), compositions for string orchestra, vocal series, children’s music.

Since 1998 – Vahram Babayan’s music festivals have been organized in Armenia (1998 – the 1st festival dedicated to the composer’s 50th birthday, 2005 – the 2nd festival dedicated to the 50th anniversary of his creative activity, 2018 – the 3rd festival dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the composer).

2014 – the 1st music festival after V. Babayan was organized in France.

1972 – Symphony No. 3 for large symphony orchestra and mixed choir based on Avetik Isahakyan’s poem “Abu-Lala Mahari” (4 parts, in armenian)

1975 – Ballet “Pygmalion” based on the ancient Greek myth (1 act). Libretto by Arsen Babayan

1977 – «The rainbow» from suite “Birth of a Poet”, for soprano, bass and piano (by E. Charents

1999, 2000 and 2001 – Scholarship of the Ministry of Culture of Saxony.

1986 – “Franz Liszt” Commemorative Medal in Hungary.

2009 – 7th string quartet “Leipzig” – “Vahan Tekeyan” international prize of the “Tekeyan” cultural society

2009 – “Hymne” – Best Composition award by the World Armenian Congress, the Union of Armenians of Russia
