Composer, teacher, musical and public figure, one of the founders of the modern Armenian school of composition
1935 – graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (professor N. Myaskovsky). After graduating from the conservatory, he moved to Leninakan, where he collaborated with the Mravyan Drama Theater. His teaching career began in Leninakan.
1938 – settled in Yerevan.
1948 – lecturer at the Yerevan State Conservatory named after Komitas (YSCK) (professor since 1959). Among his students are G. Armenian, A. Atjemian, E. Aristakesyan, E. Baghdasaryan, G. Hakhinian, E. Hovhannisyan, G. Chtchyan, M. Israelyan, E. Yerkanyan, E. Hayrapetyan, A. Zohrabyan, N. Aslanyan, D. Sakoyan and others.
1953-1957 – Chairman of the Board of the YSCK
1954-1960 – Rector of the YSCK
